Since several of my friendly friends were kind enough to comment on my last post, I will now post another post.
The call of Christianity is not a call to ignorance. A Christian should be familiar with contemporary philosophies, sayings, and ways of thinking; all while remembering that we are in this world but not of this world. The true Christian will use worldly wisdom (which is foolishness to God) to proclaim the glorious Gospel of Christ, just as the Apostle Paul did when he quoted the sayings of the ancient philosophers and poets in Acts 17:22-28. He introduced the religious and philosophical people of Athens to the one true God, with whom they were previously unaquainted.
Those philosophers were seeking to live to the fullest, being satisfied in every way. That is one universal desire that never gets old, desiring to live to the fullest. Not long after the birth of this nation, Jonathan Edwards, a great and prolific preacher, stated that desire in his sixth resolution: "Resolved, to live with all my might, while I do live." Just a few years ago, Jon Bon Jovi, the great and prolific performer stated that same resolve when he wrote, "I just want to live while I'm alive."
We Christians are different from all others in our beliefs and values, but we share with all humans in all of history the desire to really live while we are living.
